How to Be a Better Blogger!

Sometimes I feel like time just runs away from me and as much as I want to dedicate everything I have to my blog sometimes its just plain hard. So its funny that I ran into a great FREE ebook called, 15 Business Blogging Mistakes by Hubspot. Even though it was written for businesses, most of it applies to personal blogging as well especially if you are trying to build a readership.

Here is a recap:

1. Not Integrating You Blog With Your Website.

2. Publishing Too Much Product-Centric Content.

3. Publishing Infrequently/ Inconsistently.

4. Publishing Off-Topic Content.

5. Offering No Content Variety.

6. Failing to Encourage Engagement.

7. Neglecting to Optimize for Search.

8. Implementing a Poor Blog Design.

9.Rushing Blog Titles.

10. Not Sourcing Content.

11. Not Optimizing for Lead Generation.

12.Failing to Promote Content in Social Media.

13.Ignoring Blog Analytics.

14. Not Testing Blog Elements.

15. Expecting Overnight Success.

Although advice #1, #2, & #11 are focused more on business blogs, I think this quick read is great to understanding the power of blogging and growing with your blog.

I am excited to implement more of these suggestions…when I get time :)

DIY: Dramatic Organza & Tulle Wedding Hairpiece

Organza & Tulle Hairpiece

I am getting married soon. I have most of the major stuff taken care of and now I am focusing on all the little DIY projects that will complete the ceremony. One of the DIY projects that I wanted to attempt is this oversized dramatic hair clip. Oh yea, it only cost $23.00 for all the materials!!

What You’ll Need:

White Polyester Organza (1 yard)

White Tulle (1 yard)

Needle & Matching White Thread

White Felt (Stiff) Sheet (1)

Hair Clip

Diamond Broach

Fold organza in half and cut large half circles. I would say about 6 inches from fold to top of cutout. When the organza is opened and unfolded, it should be about 12 inches in diameter.

Cut out as much half circles as the fabric allows. Repeat with the tulle fabric.

Keep the half circles folded then fold again and stitch in place.

Continue folding the circles and stitching them in place and then stick them together using a running stitch. (this is where the pictures kinda fall off, leaving you guessing what to do) Continue sewing about 4 organza petals in a running stitch. Repeat with the tulle. Then layer the organza and tulle fabric and stitch them together through the middle. You will see that your hair piece is really large and loose. To fix this, stitch the petals together and pull the thread to tighten the petals. Continue tightening the thread to shrink and form the fabric.

After you have your hair piece complete, sew a felt circle on the back and hot glue the clip the felt.

Hot glue a diamond broach to the center for some extra bling.

Some Instagram shots of it!

How to Make Blinged Things!

Blinged Out Cellphones & Such

I have a sick addiction. I love to bling out everything. From cellphones, to laptops, to calculators, clocks, you name it I want to bling it. I only like working with Swarvoski crystals. They are the best! And Swarvoski doesn’t come cheap! Thats why I try to buy mine at wholesale but for small (and I mean small) you can get the ones from Micheal’s.

The trick is the glue. Which I discussed in this bling shoe tutorial. The glue is E6000 glue that your can get at any craft stores for about $5 bucks. (Yes, Melissa, if your reading, I am still talking about this glue)

Also, you need a gem stick which you can get from your local crafts store too. Its a great tool to pick up the little stones to place on your item easily because it has a waxed head. This speeds the process up drastically. No, tweezers are not a good stone picker upper.

It is good to note, that is takes A LOT of stones to bling something out. For example, my IPhone 4 case took about 300 stones and took about 1 hour to do (I did you 16ss size stones–which are larger therefore take less time). Click to here to check out some other blinged things.

What would you like to bling?

Top 5 Fridays!!

I have been so addicted to Pinterest lately! What isn’t there to like? I have assembled my Top 5 Pinterest images of the week and why I love them!

I love this Audrey picture! It reminds us why we love fashion. Because it makes a statement. Fashion can be fun or it can be serious but at the end of the day we are all just playing dress up.

Have you seen Disneybound’s Disney inspired assembles? Wow!! I have been watching her images rotate on my home board, so I know she is getting a lot of repins. It is really cool to see her interpretations of her favorite Disney characters. She makes looking like a princess or damsel in distress look cool again.

Ok. I have to admit the last time I got this wasted was when I was in college but this postcard is hilarious! If I was the cop and someone said this to me, I might have to let them go.

Sharp. Very Sharp.

This decor seems doable, matter of fact, I have this same mirror that I got from Hobby Lobby.
